There seems to be a tremendous amount of pressure placed on students today to meet College and Career Readiness Standards as prescribed by schools and educational leaders across the nation. We ask our children if they think they are ready to meet the challenges of adulthood. We ask our children if they are ready and if so how ready are they without putting enough emphasis on the more important question- have we adequately prepared them. The truth is, we should be asking and rating ourselves, as adults, this important question. Can you say you are ready to help your student with the challenges they will soon face as a young adult? Have you done all you can to enhance the skills of your student? Our children can succeed but they won't be able to do this by themselves. We must provide adequate support. We may have to go to a class or too, we may even have read and study. The burden of student success is too heavy for our children to carry alone, we must lighten the load.
